The induction of the elected officers of the Elementary and High School departments signaled a successful election period despite mishaps.
Before the induction, aspiring candidates voiced their platforms during the campaign period that lasted from October 2 to 4.
“Amidst the competitive pressure, friendships still blossomed,” said Ysabella Legaspi, the Vice President of Grade 11.
After the campaign period, the elections, which coincided with World Teacher's Day, were met with a power outage. Nonetheless, the High School department was still able to elect its officers last October 5.
Thus, the High School Officers were inducted a week earlier than elementary. Induction Proper
After the decisive election in the High School Department, all students from Atheneum School gathered at the Alex A. Laserna Friendship Hall last October 9 to witness the induction of the new High School class officers. The said ceremonial event was presided over by School Directress Adelaida Laserna.
The elected officers were asked to gather at the stage and take their oath of office, promising to uphold the values of the school and to serve their fellow classmates to the best of their ability. The same process happened for the induction of the elected officers of the Elementary Department, which was held last October 17.
Empowered to Lead
At the induction ceremony, the School Directress Adelaida Laserna delivered an address encouraging the students to reflect on the value of the month: productivity. In the middle of the speech, she asked the Amcanians what being productive meant and some Amcanians were brave enough to participate. It was then established that being productive is to execute an action that will produce a good outcome. The address of the School Directress resonated with the message that productivity should be a quality that is not ascribed, yet achieved. This particular practice is encouraged, which should be rooted in discipline.
With the address of the School Directress, the student leaders were given guidance and knowledge about productivity and how it will empower them to lead effectively and objectively. Similarly, the rest of the student body was also made aware of how productivity can make one's work successful.
Leaders In the Making
The election gave a platform for young leaders and the whole Atheneum Community to come together and reflect on the values of the school and the importance of productivity, respect, kindness, and compassion. In an interview about the elections, Xela Rubie Reyes, the elected class treasurer of Grade 11, shared that it was hard to be elected as a class officer since there was a need to gain the trust of every classmate. In spite of the hindrances, she was able to be elected because her batchmates saw her potential and capability to carry out the responsibilities that came with her position. Other class officers shared the sentiments of Xela Reyes.
Despite many adversities, the homeroom class organizations still serve as a platform for young leaders to hone their leadership skills. It is vital to the current generation who are considered as the "Leaders in the Making".
